Beating Cardiovascular Disease

Four Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits by AAFP

Learn the current state and future of advanced testing

Key cardiovascular diagnostic tools to improve outcomes

Move beyond traditional lipid panel to save lives

Course Format

This interactive four-hour session is a free Continuing Medical Education course, with CME credits available. Specific clinical cases will be profiled that will demonstrate evaluation and treatment regimens of specific types of cardiovascular patients commonly seen in primary care practices. Ischemic heart disease, strokes, and cardiomyopathy patients will be discussed, along with how each case progressed with the help of advanced cardiovascular data assistance. Clinicians will discuss as a group how they would treat example cases, with emphasis on biomarker identification and resulting clinical implications.

Learning Objectives

1) Each participant will learn the meaning and value of key risk factors directly related to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease

2) Each clinician will be taught clinical strategies that will help make use of cardiovascular marker information

3) Practical clinical pearls will be discussed to improve cardiovascular outcomes of patients at risk

4) Clinicians will be shown methods of evaluation to minimize the possibility of patients "slipping through the cracks"

5) Each clinician will leave better aware of cardiovascular diagnostic tools that are available

About the Trainer

Sam Fillingane, DO

Dr. Fillingane, a widely acclaimed speaker on cardiovascular risk reduction, practices family medicine in Flowood, Mississippi. With over 25 years of experience, Dr.Fillingane is known for his commitment to beating cardiovascular disease by moving beyond disease “Physician attitudes require a good understanding of cardiovascular disease,” explains Dr. Fillingane. “Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of people in the United States killing more people than the next 4 causes of death combined.”

As evidenced in Dr. Fillingane’s practice, the medical community is changing -- clinical laboratories are now interacting differently with physicians and patients in order to dramatically change these statistics in the future. To do this, Dr. Fillingane partners with advanced laboratories to provide the most advanced practices for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and related chronic diseases. The result – earlier detection of risk factors pre-disposing his patients to disease, more advanced evidence-based treatments, and fewer patients progressing to overt disease.
